Cameron Awkward-Rich

Cameron Awkward-Rich received his PhD in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University in 2017. Before coming to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he was a postdoctoral associate in transgender studies with the program in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University. His research and teaching interests include trans/feminist/queer theory and methods; disability studies; contemporary American literature; and creative writing. Currently, he is working on a book manuscript, “Refuse: Maladjustment & Trans[masculine] Thought,” which brings together trans, disability, and affect theory to examine the politics and poetics of ‘bad’ feelings in transgender cultural production. Also a poet, Cameron is the author of Sympathetic Little Monster (Ricochet Editions, 2016) and Dispatch: Poems (Persea, 2019).
